Cocoon’s woven interior with a coastal view
From the Cocoon project materials

I know Cocoon from the inside. During my time as CEO, I worked with the team on its development: the terrace, kitchen and bar, service and staff training. This guide brings together practical pointers for a visit today and the story of how the restaurant evolved. My work with the group ended in April 2024; bookings and current conditions are confirmed by the Cocoon team.

What makes Cocoon Viewpoint memorable

The name Cocoon captures the character of the place. Its original concept included woven structures resembling cocoons or nests, with photo spots extending towards the open view. They gave the restaurant a recognisable outline and offered a different perspective on the island.

The view is an attraction in its own right. The restaurant’s official photographs give you an idea of the panoramas, while its profile specifically highlights sunsets and planes. From this elevated position, the airport and air traffic are part of the scene. This perspective also features in a restaurant article in Bangkok Airways’ Fah Thai magazine.

If you are choosing a restaurant with a view for your first visit to Koh Samui, you can make Cocoon an evening destination of its own. Leave time for both photographs and dinner. A date, a gathering with friends and an unhurried meal are different ways to enjoy the same setting. When booking, explain which kind of evening you have in mind.

The terrace and sunset: planning your evening

The sunset-facing side was an important part of our work. Together with the team, we extended the terrace, added seats and a large photo area, and opened up new views for guests. For me, this served a straightforward purpose: giving people a reason to stay and spend an evening here.

For a sunset visit, I suggest arriving while it is still light. This gives you time to understand the seating layout, explore the guest areas that are open and choose a spot for photographs. Sunset times change through the year, so plan around your date rather than a fixed time mentioned in someone else’s review.

Discuss the view and the side of the terrace you want with the restaurant. A reservation alone should not be taken as confirmation of a particular table at the edge. If a deposit or other conditions apply to your chosen area, ask for the details before visiting.

The weather matters too. Clouds can completely change the scene, so plan a dinner you would enjoy even without a colourful sunset. Arrange your return transport in advance, especially if you intend to drink alcohol.

Photographs: cocoons, the terrace and the panorama

It is worth taking different kinds of photographs at Cocoon. A wide shot shows the scale of the panorama, the woven details provide a recognisable backdrop, and your table with drinks or dinner records the mood of the visit itself. Daylight and twilight will produce different images even if you stay in the same place.

Start with photographs before your food arrives, then put your phone away and take time to look around. For a portrait, try having the light fall on the face from the side. Shooting directly towards the sun may turn a person into a silhouette; that can work well too, if it is the effect you want.

Ask the restaurant about access to individual photo spots, professional photography and a suitable time for a shoot. Do not assume that every part of the terrace is available for photography without restrictions.

Cocoon’s menu: choosing dinner

Cocoon’s official website presents Thai and European cuisine, which is useful for a group with different tastes. Before visiting, look at the MENU highlight on its official Instagram, where separate food and bar pages are published.

Here are a few starting points from the restaurant’s published menu:

  • For Thai food: Tom Yam seafood, Massaman lamb curry, or Pad Thai with chicken or shrimp.
  • For fish or seafood: Mediterranean octopus, Seabass tapenade, or Scallop truffle risotto.
  • For a familiar option: pasta, burgers and poke bowls.
  • To finish dinner: Apple crumble or Homemade chocolate brownie.

Start with how hungry you are and whether you want to share dishes. Discuss the heat level for Thai dishes, and always check ingredients with the staff if you have an allergy.

These suggestions come from the published menu checked on 3 October 2026. Availability, ingredients, prices and serving times for individual sections may change. Check the menu in the restaurant before ordering. Also check whether menu prices include tax and a service charge.

The bar, cocktails and alcohol-free drinks

The published bar list includes classic and signature cocktails. Signature names include Cocoon, Purple Blossom, Siam Sour, Sunset Kiss and Green Wave. For your first order, tell the bartender what you like: something tart or sweet, a lighter drink or a more spirit-forward one. That will lead to a more useful recommendation than choosing only by a name or photograph.

For an alcohol-free evening, the menu includes Tropical Passion and Pink Grapefruit lemonades, smoothies and fruit drinks. More recent restaurant posts also present an updated coffee selection, including Espresso Tonic, Amber Citrus and raf coffees.

Check the drinks list close to your visit: the official profile has already announced a forthcoming cocktail-menu update. The names above help you explore the published selection, but do not guarantee that every drink will be available on the day.

How a scenic venue developed into a restaurant

Cocoon opened during the pandemic, as the history published by Cocoon Family Group also confirms. This scenic venue began at a difficult time for island tourism, when Samui did not have its usual flow of travellers.

As I remember it, the original concept had three photo areas. The kitchen developed next. Before I joined the project, Chef Artur had already reworked the menu and taken a substantial step towards a full restaurant format.

My part in the story runs from August 2023 to April 2024. With the team, I worked on the terrace extension and sunset-facing side, new seating and a photo area. Alongside that, we developed the professional kitchen and a large open bar, worked on the menu, cocktails and lemonades, and improved the organisation of service and staff training.

A guest does not need to know how the kitchen, training or order flow works. They notice the result in specific moments: how they are welcomed, helped to choose a table and dishes, and how smoothly dinner unfolds. For me, the link between the restaurant’s operations and the guest’s experience was central to the work at Cocoon.

As I remember it, the number of Google Maps reviews grew from roughly 500 to 2,800 during my time there. We worked actively with guests and their feedback to make the restaurant easier to discover. These are historical figures from my period of work; today’s figures are given separately below.

According to my operating figures, the restaurant’s highest monthly revenue before I joined was about ฿3 million. In December, revenue reached approximately ฿9 million. December was the first month after the low season. These are two historical points, not a seasonally adjusted comparison; they cannot separately measure the impact of the terrace, menu or service.

I discuss my role, decisions and historical results in a separate Cocoon Family Group case study. This guide focuses on what helps you plan a visit.

What to read about Cocoon before visiting

For an independent view of the food and atmosphere, start with Fah Thai’s “Sensational Food with a Sumptuous View”, published on 27 August 2025. It describes a particular visit by a writer for Bangkok Airways’ inflight magazine. It helps you picture the restaurant, but the dishes and team described belong to the time of that article.

For more recent impressions, open Google Maps and Tripadvisor, select recent reviews and read the details as well as the rating. The reviews checked include praise for the panorama, attentive staff, food and drinks, alongside comments about cost and conditions for particular tables with a view. Compare those details with your own budget and expectations.

On 3 October 2026, the verified Google Maps listing showed Cocoon at 4.7 out of 5 from 10,845 reviews, while Tripadvisor showed 4.8 out of 5 from 2,307 reviews. These are changing figures from different platforms. Before visiting, open the listings themselves and read the latest guest experiences.

New Year’s Eve at Cocoon

New Year’s Eve offers another way to enjoy a viewpoint restaurant: watching festive lights and fireworks over Samui. The experience depends on weather, visibility and where you sit; it would be wrong to promise a view of every fireworks display on the island.

The official website already has a programme for welcoming 2027, on the evening of 31 December 2026 and into 1 January 2027. It advertises music, festive entertainment and views of the New Year fireworks.

If that is the evening you are planning, visit the dedicated event page. New Year’s Eve conditions may differ from an ordinary dinner reservation. Before paying, ask whether a deposit applies per person or per table, how it is used, what is included and what the cancellation rules are.

Getting there and booking a table

For directions, use the COCOON VIEWPOINT RESTAURANT listing linked from the official website. The restaurant gives its address as 33/67 Village No. 4, Ko Samui, Surat Thani, 84320. Sending your driver the exact map link is more useful than sending only the name.

The official Cocoon website and profile contain booking links and contact details. Include your date, time, party size and occasion when getting in touch. If the sunset-facing side, a particular seating area or step-free access matters to you, discuss it in advance. The restaurant confirms kitchen hours, table availability and booking conditions.

The “Book a table at Cocoon” button takes you to the reservation form on the restaurant’s official website. Confirmations, deposits, changes and cancellations are handled directly with Cocoon.

Should I book in advance? If a particular time, table with a view or special occasion matters to you, contact the restaurant ahead of time and get its conditions confirmed.

What if I do not want alcohol? The published menu includes lemonades, smoothies, fruit drinks and coffee. Ask the team for an available option that suits your taste.

If you are looking at the restaurant as a business owner

What matters to me in this story is the connection between the space, kitchen and service. The terrace attracts attention; everything that happens afterwards shapes the guest’s experience. I worked on that connection at Cocoon and continue to do so in other projects.

If you want to understand what could improve your own restaurant or service business, start with the free diagnostic on my website. The Cocoon Family Group case study explains my role and the work of that period in more detail.
